Elizabeth D. Nobmann, received her PhD in Human Nutrition (University of Alaska Fairbanks, 1996), MPH in Public Health Nutrition (University of California Berkeley, 1969), and BS in Food Service and Housing Administration (Pennsylvania State University, 1965). Dr. Nobmann is a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist in Alaska. She has worked in the nutrition field in Connecticut, California, and over 30 years in Alaska. Her work as Chief of the Nutrition Services with the Alaska Area Native Health Service (US Indian Health Service) and with Alaska Native Health Corporations has taken her to over 55 Alaskan communities as well as to Canada, Russia, Norway and Denmark.
Dr. Nobmann has investigated dietary practices of Alaska Natives and Native food composition, and used this information to implement practical public health programs.
She has been recognized for her sustained contributions to resolving health issues that affect Alaska Natives. She was the principal investigator on the Dietary Intake of Alaska Native Adults Project, one of the most comprehensive dietary intake surveys conducted among Alaska Natives. Her doctoral thesis investigated diet among Siberian Yupiks of Alaska and implications for cardiovascular disease. Her report, Nutrient Value of Alaska Native Foods is frequently requested. Most recently she has been instrumental in creating and evaluating the dietary component of the GOCADAN (Genetics of Coronary Artery Disease in Alaska Natives) Project in Northwest Alaska.
Dr. Nobmann owns the business EDN Nutrition Consulting, and is a partner in IDM Consulting, which specializes in public health assessment and research.
