Researchers' Profiles - Dionne Gesink Law

Dr. Dionne Gesink Law is an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Her research interests include infectious diseases, reproductive and environmental epidemiology. Dionne has her doctorate in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2003). Her dissertation focused on the spatial and spatiotemporal distribution of sexually transmitted infections. Dionne continued her training for three more years as a visiting post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences. During that time, she continued her work on sexually transmitted infections and investigated the effects of environmental exposures (polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), DDE, obesity) on reproduction (primarily fertility). Dionne then moved into an academic position at Montana State University where she and colleague, Elizabeth Rink, began building a program investigating sexual health and sexually transmitted infections in northern frontier populations. Today, Dionne and Beth continue to work with communities and colleagues in Greenland, Denmark, Canada, and the United States to improve sexual health and reduce sexually transmitted infections in the north.
