Researchers´ Profiles - Alexander Kumar

Alexander Kumar is a British doctor. He graduated with MBBS Medicine from King's College London School of Medicine (Guy's, King's & St. Thomas' hospitals) in 2008. He gained a first class honors degree in International (Public) Health from University of Leeds, completing his dissertation on a research project titled ‘HIV Among Inuit: Assessing Risk and Prevention Strategies’ whilst living in Nunavut Territory (Canada) in 2006.  He is currently enrolled on the Master's Programme in Circumpolar Health at the University of Oulu, Finland and has also studied Conflict and Catastrophe medicine.

He has gained medical experience in the North including in Iqaluit and with the J.A. Hildes Northern Medical Unit and has also worked in India, Israel, Shetland and Sri Lanka. He has completed several expeditions including through East Africa and the Peruvian Amazon and has travelled extensively. He completed his preliminary postgraduate clinical training in Brighton (UK) on an Infectious Diseases programme. He will continue his training in Oxford (UK) in acute care and continue his speciality interest in Infectious Diseases, Circumpolar and Tropical Medicine.

Outside of medicine, he is interested in natural sciences and wildlife. He uses film and photography as a medium to help to raise awareness about Circumpolar health status.
