Andrew Kozlov is a Member of the Institute of Developmental Physiology, Russian Academy of Education and Professor and Chair of Human Ecology at the International Independent University of Ecological and Political Sciences (IIUEPS) in Moscow, Russia. He is also Senior Scientist and Head of the ArctAn-C Innovative Laboratory in Moscow and the Sula Lab in Balchik, Bulgaria.
He conducts research in physical and medical anthropology among the Uralic, Siberian and Northern European (Saami) indigenous populations of Russia, and in anthropological genetics of various populations in the former Soviet Union and the Balkans. His research focuses on nutrition, the health consequences of modernization, socioeconomic and environmental stress influences on migrant and indigenous populations.
He was trained as a physician, graduating from the Perm Medical Institute in 1977. He obtained the PhD in human anatomy in 1986, the Senior Scientist qualification in 1991, and the Doctorate of Science in physical anthropology and physiology in 2004.
He is a member of the European Anthropological Association, the International Arctic Social Sciences Society, and the Russian Geographical Society.
He served as a general physician in the Perm region between 1977 and 1981 and was appointed an assistant professor in human anatomy at the Perm Pedagogical and Medical Institutes (1981-87). From 1987 to 1992 he was Head of the Medical Anthropology Laboratory of the Tjumen Medical Institute. He established the ArctAn-C Innovative Laboratory in Moscow in 1991 and the Sula Lab in Balchik in 1999. He joined the faculty of the newly established IIUEPS in Moscow in 1996. Throughout his career he had taught courses and supervised graduate students in human anatomy, physical anthropology, nutrition and human ecology in Perm, Tjumen and Moscow.
