Researchers´ Profiles - Marit Eika Jørgensen

Marit Eika Jørgensen is a medical doctor and researcher at the Centre for Health Research in Greenland at the National Institute of Public Health in Copenhagen. Her interest in medical research in Greenland developed during 3 years as registrar in Nuuk, Greenland. She has a PhD. in diabetes epidemiology from the University of Copenhagen.

Her major interest is in the area of cardiovascular risk factors, the metabolic syndrome and diabetes among Inuit. She has worked with survey research in the Greenland Population Study and is now involved in the planning of the cohort study “Inuit Health in Transition” in Greenland, Canada and Alaska. She has special field experience with direct measurement of physical activity, ultrasound of fat distribution including abdominal fat, liver- and muscle fat.  She is a Board member of the Danish-Greenlandic Society of Circumpolar Health.
