Researchers´ Profiles - Preben Homøe

Preben Homøe is an associate professor and consultant in otorhinolaryngology and head of the section of Head and Neck Surgery at the Department of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery Rigshospitalet, University Hospital of Copenhagen since 2002. He graduated in medicine in 1987 from the University of Copenhagen and attained specialist competence in 1999. From 2001 until 2004 he has been responsible for otolaryngology in Greenland via a contract between the Home Rule Government of Greenland and Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. Since 1999 he has once a year served as consulting ENT-specialist for three to four weeks in different towns in Greenland

At present he is chairman of the Danish/Greenlandic Society for Circumpolar Health and in the board of the IUCH.

He has conducted own research projects in Greenland but also projects in cooperation with epidemiological researchers. His scientific interests is mainly otitis media in all its aspects and upper respiratory tract infections among the Inuit population of Greenland but also hearing impairment and nasopharyngeal and salivary gland carcinomas along with other cancers of the head and neck region. In 1996 he defended a Ph.D. thesis and in 2001 his doctoral thesis. Both theses concerned otitis media in Greenland (see publication list). He is a scientific reviewer of several journals. He has published 25 peer-reviewed monographs and papers and given more than 70 lectures at scientific meetings.
